So, Mike finally struck me and I decided to go ahead and go for a
hike. I have to say only one thing...it was really great.

It started out odd though. When me and my two hiking partners got to
the open space preserve, there were no parking spots or suitable
places to lock our bicycles that we rode up there. Being very firm
enviromentalist, we refuse to drive but found this situation very
paradoxial...how do you deal with these situations Mike? Do you
usually just walk to your hiking grounds?

Anyways...Since we couldnt find appropriate parking areas for our
bicycles we just pushed them along with us, still following the rules
which stated "no mountain biking."

Although they werent allowed on the trail, It was really great when we
saw two equestrians with their dog...simply enjoying nature like we
were, using a medium that they appreciated...It was really quite
harmonious...

I owe you much grattitude Mike for showing me the light.

Yes, but others lock their bikes at the trail head.

BS. The rules are "NO BIKES". Pushing them is not allowed.

I am working on creating wildlife habitat that is off-limits to
humans ("pure habitat"). Want to help? (I spent the previous 8
years fighting auto dependence and road construction.)

Please don't put a cell phone next to any part of your body that you are fond of!

Yeah, thats what we tried to do but there was nothing secure to lock
to besides trees...I would hate to wrap my chainlock around a tree.

Oh...I didnt know that you had read the rules to the open space that I
was visiting. On the two rule boards which I read, they only stated
that there was no mountain biking allowed...along with no horseback
riding, no fires and no dogs. Do they have real rules that they
simply choose not to post for some reason?

I thought you would be able to encourage me in ways that would make my
hiking a more pleasant experience...are you able to do so?

Mike is sociopathically incapable of *encouraging* anybody...a sad
byproduct of his psycho-training. You see, he probably doesn't want
you HIKING there either - he considers humans totally unnatural, and
he is incapable of understanding that the passive and ephemeral
presence of a human in a forest is no more or less intrusive to the
local animals than that of a grizzly bear, a warthog or an elk.

I'll bet I speak for practically everyone else when I congratulate you
on your reasonable response to the situation at hand, and may you have
many more days of peaceful nature communion during which you needn't
be encumbered by a bike that could not be stored.

Why would I want to encourage anyone to hike? Leave the wildlife
alone!

Um, no....I believe that wrapping a chain around a tree might not be
very good for the health of that specimen.

Mike,
Didn't you read the part(s) where he said (twice) there were no facilities
to accomodate bike parking?

Because? No is asking you to girdle the tree, just put a lock around
it.

Tough. That's no excuse for taking the on the trails, and harming the
wildlife.
