I knew it was going to happen sooner or later--it always did in my previous cycling life. I was cruising along on my neighborhood fitness ride when I came up on a couple of kids riding bmx-style bikes. When I started to pass them, one of them decided he didn't want the old man to get by him. The race was on! Hell, I've dusted many a young kid in this game before. But alas that was on a 26lb Lightning! Trying to accelerate on the EZ1 was a different story. I did, however, manage to hold him off and edge in front before he gave up. And I'm glad he did because if I had gone on like that any longer, I would have been telling him to grab my cell phone and call 911!!!

When I lived in Houston there was this Aussie who would ride with the Houston Bicycle Club on Saturday mornings. He rode a full-suspension MTB with 2-inch knobbies on our 30-40 mile road rides. He was always at the front of the pack. I told him on several occasions that it was good he had that bike. If he had a more efficient ride, there'd be no way any of us would be able to hang with him.
