At the end of last summer I swam to an island in the lake near my home. It is 1/2 km one way.
Today I did it again.
I started after the sun set, so that I would not be blinded by the sun. So that I wouldn't loose the location that i entered, I used a flashing red bike light at the shoreline.

I think I will do it at least once a week.

1. swimming alone in open water 2. swimming at night in open water 3. depending on a bike light for direction
Did you at least tell the youth where to look for your body?

1. swimming alone in open water
There were lots of people around on shore, just no one following me. There was someone with a boat that had a motor on it that would come out if i went under... even for a split second

2. swimming at night in open water
There were no boats around to run me over.... I dont want a propeller to hit me.

3. depending on a bike light for direction
Actually, the bike light is so that once I got close enough I knew where to get out. The street lights were what I used for direction.

Then don't swim at night in open water, where boats might go.

Which youth are you talking about?
The ones who are smart enough not to swim alone in open water at night.
