I have an old '88 or '89 Cannondale road bike that was originally equipped
with Shimano 105 7 speed componentry, with 2 chain rings (Biopace, yet!) Well
not too long ago the front shifter gave up the ghost, and the LBS had a NOS
(apparently) system but it has a "feathering" feature that I find very
frustrating and I'd much rather replace what was installed with a non
feathering equpped old Shimano 105, 600, Ultegra, or (gasp) even Dura Ace.
Opinions? Where can I find such old powertrains if they infact exist any
more? It's not like the mechanic who worked on the bike was bad, heck, he
explained how it worked, changed it to a different system when the owner saw
that I was having mental problems with what they were putting on, etc. So,
they were trying to make it as painless as possible, but I just don't feel
comfortable with it, I want my old (well, one like it) 105 system back!
Feel free to post to this topic or email me privately.
    Thanks very much

The best that I can suggest is getting on line and search for Vintage Bicycle Parts, or going to eBay and searching Vintage Bicycle Shifters. You might look for the old Shimano 500EX equipment which became the 105 after the model number shift in the mid 80s.
