  1. Just got a call from my "first choice" P.D. Not only have they made me a firm offer, but they pushed
    my start date up. Instead of waiting till November 3rd, I'll be starting the Academy's July 29th
    class!!!!!!!

    Sorry, it is very unlikely... They are standardized on the Raleigh F500 ( Though, I'm sure
    once I snap a few frames they will let me ride my personal bike once I get it painted to match
    the fleet ;-)

    But hey, they are changing from S&W .40's to SIG-Sauer after 8 years of saying thye would "never"
    change, so it's not _impossible_.

    Congrats John,

    Do they have a bike patrol? If not, perhaps you could initiate one.

    Indeed, they DO have a Bike Patrol!

    And they sad part is they cannot get enough officers for the duty, so they actually offer some very
    nice [ay and equiptment bonuses to entice folks to volunteer for that detail

    Congratulations! So when do you take all of us out for donuts??

    Some friendly unsolicited advice, fwiw: remember, the world is not divided into cops and dirtbags;
    try to cultivate and maintain friends outside the department; don't take the inevitable frustrations
    out on your wife, kids, dog, etc. (That big heavy bag will come in handy again.)

    What will you carry? Back in my day, it was definitely the Colt Python either on the hip or in a
    shoulder holster.

    We celebrate with you
