WASHINGTON - The government needs to establish guidelines for canceling or

Oh, horseshit. The country was plenty divided already during the
Clinton years, which led to such a hotly contested (even) election,
which the Dems have bitterly resented since, which has cemented the
    absolute partisanship that remains now.

Of course it was divided during the Clinton years. And then came Bush,
promising to "unite and heal" the country, etc. etc. Instead, he has
done just the opposite with his secretiveness and his positions.

One could argue that it's the Democrats who resent him so much that they
just won't support /anything/ originating from him. (Watch a tape of
Hillary's sour puss some time, during his address to Congress immediately
following 9/11. The entire country rallied begind him -- albeit maybe only
briefly -- but she couldn't stand it for even that long. Of course, now she
probably WANTS him to win, for obvious reasons 4 years down line...)

No! This is wrong! I don't know anyone--nor have I seen anyone-- of
any political persuasion who hopes that things go terribly wrong in
Iraq. You are just spouting the typical Republican line trying to
separate the people into the "good Americans who love their country
and are Republican" and the "bad Americans who hate America and just
happen to be Democratic". You should be ashamed for falling for this
Rush Limbaugh/Glenn Beck/Michael Savage line. Just because they keep
repeating it daily does not mean a thinking person should accept
    their spin.

I never listen to ANY of those people, AT ALL. Swear to God. (Never even
heard of that middle one.) I simply listen to OverFed Kennedy and Tom
Dashitall, and make up my own mind.

Could have something to do with promising to veto a UN vote to go
after Saddam after "only" 12 years and 17 resolutions. And let's not
forget why they did it... moral uprightness? Nope, just Iraqi oil

What ticks me off royally about this whole attitude of the Bush
administration is that it is dividing Americans unnecessarily. Now,
supposedly, if you have "family values", you cannot be a Democrat--"only"
Republicans have "family values." If you "love America" then you 'must' be
a Republican, and "everybody knows" that only Republicans are religious....

Hmmmm, I musta missed that memo. Perhaps you can point us all to the
    source for this revelation.

Bush ran on a platform of being "a uniter, not a divider" and yet all he has
done since being in office has been to divide the nation on many fronts. Of
course, the people he picked for his administration have done the major work
in this dividing; people such as John Ashcroft and [censored] Cheney.

Uh huh. Both sides are certainly guilty of working over the other
pretty well, but to suggest that it's an entirely Republican thing
shows you either haven't been paying attention or you're so hopelessly
partisan that the truth bounces off without making an impression.

Well manure aside, you may think that but you will not find an
instance where President Clinton denounced the character of those who
disagreed or attacked his policies or his character. Even now, he
chooses to not attack the character of Kenneth W. Starr who attacked
him so viciously and without merit or purpose other than to discredit
    his character for the opposition.

Grand Old Pleasure-Seekers Head for the Republican Convention

By Mark Sage, PA News, in New York

As New York gears up for the Republican Convention, escort agencies in the
city are preparing for a boom in business.

Thousands of Republicans, including President George Bush, will descend on
the city for the pre-election rally on August 30.

As will call girls and escorts, arriving in force to supply the anticipated
    spike in demand from delegates.

Yes, the right in one word: HYPOCRITES.

I'm as left as they get and I'd be thrilled if all Iraqis sat down and
said they'd settle their differences and that they didn't need our
interference any more and that our troops could come home by the 4th of
July. But I know the war mongering, controlling right wing would never
have that since there is still profit to be made.

Why doesn't Kerry just give the ~$200M he's raised to them then?
Maybe he can buy 'em off... ;-)

Here's a question for you... say you wake up and you're the president
of the US (if that happens, I move - but that's another thread).
Anyway you know you're set for life - you're the most powerful person
on the planet, and when you can retire you can write lousy books that
    will still sell like hotcakes.

However, you're going to be under a microscope, and every time you
burp in public your political enemies are going to run it up the flag
pole. This is going to happen even after you leave office.

Now under those circumstances, why in the world would you really worry
about taking the chance of public humiliation, disgrace and the loss
of future income (not to mention prison time) by trying to accept
bribery from a huge government contractor like Halliburton? You
wouldn't even be able to spend the money since your finances are
public knowledge, and spending more than you make will be pretty
obvious (kinda like John Kerry borrowing $6M on "his" house, but
that's legit - just not really "his" house).

    Just curious...
