Identifieing an old Colnago

I got my GF an old Colnago for christmas and want to ad it on to our renters insurance but I cant
find a serial # anywhere. I've looked in the usual spots (bottom bracket shell, chain stays) but I
cant find it. where on the older colnago's did they stamp it?

Also, did Campy make a 7 speed ergo lever? this bike is set up with 7 speed down tube friction
shifting, and I'd like to upgrade it to indexing and put on ergo brake/shifting levers, are the
levers the only thing I'd need to trade out or would I need a new rear derailure to?

I don't know about the old Colnago's but my fairly new one is marked on the drop-outs.

Try looking around the dropouts.

Need to know which derailleur and rear hub is on the bike in order to answer this. I think there are
only 8+ speed Ergo levers, but
7/8 speed spacing is usually close enough to interchange, depending on what the rest of the
parts are.

yes, the serial number is on the dropouts.

you can run 7 speed ergo using an 8 speed ergo shifter with a Sachs 7 speed freewheel. the spacing
works. I speak from experience (on an old Colnago)

Steve.. All I can make out is a number on the bottom of the bottom
bracket-
R1204R. I suspect it might be an early 70;sColnago as there are no cable
guided
on the top tube nor braze on for the cable shifters..

My Conago Super, purchased in 1975 from Altig Radsport in Mannheim, Germany, had no brake cable
guides (it does now, though) but did have braze-ons for the shift levers. Willi Altig made periodic
trips to Italy to get frames for his customers directly from the factory. I remember distinctly that
the others he brought back in that trip did not have the shifter braze-ons, but I don't know what
that means about the lineage of my bike- maybe the bike was slightly special, or maybe I got the
American export version built by shop apprentices, or maybe it was an early one of the next model
year. It has a chromed fork crown which I also seem to remember was not on the others. It does not
have a serial number on it.

I think, though, that soon after that pretty much all the frames started to have the braze-on
shifter bosses. So it seems like that bike could be anytime up to 1976.
