  1. how long should i take of from a viral infection? just wait until i am ok to ride again and then wrap up warm and dont go too hard i guess?

    its killing me not training

  2. This is only from experience/research/coaching that I've had and not a professional opinion; I, too, get really frustrated and down when I cannot ride because of getting sick/injured...

What works for me is riding easy for about an hour. During these flat easy rides-bike paths are great for these rides as you can go easy and not feel like you are crawling-I hardly get my hr over 130-135, I spin a lot and work on my cadence-it makes me feel like I'm doing something. I often feel better after these rides and a long steamy shower.

I wouldn’t think much about “warming up and cooling down” as those imply a progression in effort-which you don’t want to do during a ride. If you are going to be off the bike for 5-7days, you’ll can preserve a lot of fitness by riding 1 hours a day. And when you are no longer sick, your body is ready to do some good training.

I'd not ride with fever or if I can see that riding is making my symptoms worse. Rest usually helps to recover from a viral infection as it allows your immune system to fight the virus. I'd also keep really really hydrated and sleep a lot!
