Hi all!

ok after so many years, i'm tired of cycling, and looking for new sport... How about wind/kitesurfing?

So many people have bad crashes, and I frankly dont want to be next.

Anyone have any suggestions? Yoga?

Mate, you're asking a lot of people who would rather ride than anything else!
I've had a few different activities before taking up cycling in the last two years. Rugby and cricket. Both have caused me more injuries than cycling and I only played/trained three times a week whereas i now race/ride every day.

How about switching to triathlons? You'd take some -- but not all -- of the emphasis off the bike, and work on swimming/running to boot.

get a rocking chair.... your life is over!

life is a cycle however you've come to the end of yours....

sayonara...

Rowing .... just make sure you bike down to the practices. Seriously, why the fatigue? Just lost the fun of it all? Training too much instead of enjoying?

Just take some time off. Tired of riding,? It happens, in differing degrees, to all of us. Work, family, etc etc. I had had enough of riding myself about two years ago. So I took the better part of a year off without missing riding at all.

Then early last summer I saw a group out on a gorgeous day, and it hit me that I wanted to ride again. Dusted off the specialissima and went on a 20 km ride, sweating like an animal and loving it. :)

One month later I had a brand new De Rosa and have been riding regularly ever since! Life is good.

You will know when you feel the urge to ride again.

And just think of all the new shiny equipment you will need when you start up again!

Enjoy the break!

I took seven years off basically ........ now I am excited as I was when I first got seriously into riding in '91. I was totally burned out after training every day and racing two times a week.

But now I am totally back into it.

Witch bike do you have?

What size?

How much do you want for sell it?

If you feel a knot in your throat with the thought of selling your bike, you still have some hope, if you don't feel anything, you're done.

Well said.
Of course we all get tired of the bike from time to time and it is a question of quantity and desire and other responsibilities.

(BTW - it's well for you being based in Roma - I love that city
and the great bike shop up on the Via Bergamo - Lazzaretti's !:
great bikes, excellent service !).

Try bodybuilding/weightlifting.
If you eat tons of protein and get all pumped up, you might come back as a stronger cyclist in a year or two.

First of all, is cycling even a sport? Nobody ever *softballed* to work, right? Bikes are transportation-- they take the rider from point A to point B. Yes, you can race a bike, or just ride to a cafe, or your girlfriends house, or any other place you wish to go. Cycling is very flexable and forgiving.

So stop training and park the bike! My guess is that you'll feel like riding again sooner than you think.

Ask yourself why you took it up in the first place. Was it the way you saw the world in a new light? Was it that it made you feel free?

Got to go back to your roots brother...

Nothing new here, just affirming what others have said:

Take some time off. As long as it takes. Try something new, but make sure it's an intense cardio-type sport (you mentioned that it's an impending crash that worries you).

Or not. Your call.

But don't sweat the crash. Some are bad. I've had my share. stiches, staples, splints, and the like. I still keep coming back. I've taken time off too, and that helps me get the love back.

If you're a cyclist at heart, you'll be back too. Good luck! :)

Why not goin a gym?

I find it works great as when I don't feel like riding or it is raining ,which it often does round here :) I go to the gym and I soon want to go cycling again:)

i know the feeling also of being burned out, i been out the sport for over 7yrs after an injury during a marathon training session (thats 26miles not long session) i used to ride everyday weight-train, run, circuit train but i used to look forward to cycling the most, i dont think anything beats the feeling of freedom out on the road, wind blowing through your hair, the landscape passing by sometimes at great speed. also the exhileration you feel after breaking the top speed or PB you've achieved.

Also the looks on drivers faces when you come to a set of stop lights after drafting some 30 - 45mph off wagon, vans, jeeps and buses.

now i start the week again now its summer excited about the fact that the sun is comming out the wind may not be to hard and you know that your going to go out and ride that bike like you stole it.

go on, leave the family!, but you'll be back....begging for that new 13 speed durace in a couple of years.....

Everybody crashes, either in a bike race or on a training ride, apparently you don't race a lot or put in the mileage. Those who love to race/ride get back on the bike ASAP. That's the difference with just riding a bike, or really riding a bike!!
