Assuming that the per mile statistics are equally applicable to journeys to
the shops of course.

Mind you, I'm not aware of any car drivers having been killed within a
mile's radius of where I am in the last year, but I can think of two
pedestrian killings within 200 metres: One by a car at a bus stop, one by
some youths on the pavement.

So it seems you're right.
