Have you heard of cases of bikes that are impounded. We were in a chat with a traffic officer several days ago about the safety of biking in the city. I was surprised to learn that they sometimes arrest a rider and impound the bike. But the impounding is usually for cases of accidents especially when there is a severe injury to a pedestrian or even to the biker himself. On one occasion, the traffic officer related the incident when one biker had lost his brakes and hit a traffic officer. You can guess what happened next.

That's quite surprising, I never knew that they impounded bicycles. I guess this makes sense, if the cyclist has contravened road regulations. However, I have no idea if this actually takes place in my country. Perhaps it does, and most of us are not aware of the situation. If motor vehicle drivers can get their cars impounded, then there's no reason that cyclist can't experience the same if they're being a danger to themselves and the public.
