In the event of a crack in a titanium frame, Is it possible to fix ? Can it be welded ? If yes, with special equipment ?

Thank you

Yes.
Yes.
Yes.

Of course the repairability of the crack depends on the severity and/or location of the crack. The actual welding requires that the weld area be purged--with, typically, nitrogen--during the welding to prevent hydrogen embrittlement.

It does depend on the placement of the crack but the chances of it being a permanent fix are mostly not to good. If a crack does form on a Ti tube it can be because of improper purging to begin with or a vent hole for purging that that was done with a dull drill bit. Drilling for vent holes should be done with a sharp center drill that chamfers the hole.
If you do have a crack you should use a very small drill bit and drill a small hole at each end of the crack then fuse weld the crack then lay down a layer of rod. Hope this helps you out. Are you sure the frame would not be covered on warranty?
Argon is generally the choice for purging a Ti frame.

Theoretically possible, Why don't you post a description (or better yet, a picture) of the crack?

Hello,

Ok i understand... Thanks. There is no crack yet, it's for a new frame I just bought. It's an american "Sampson" which i spotted in a closeout sale.

I couldn't find a decent steel frame for a good price, Colnago's Master X Light jumped from 2000 usd up to 2600 usd just for some fancy new painting schemes. Pegoretti's are delivered with a year waiting time, others makes you wait 6 months, and there are practically no good frame-builders artisans left where I live.

Anyways i'm looking forward to ride on it, lets hope it will last a long time !

Thank you
