i recently have started to collect old bike from the trash ect. to rebuild and ride
them.i sure a lot of them are just department store type but some seem quite old and i thought it would be neat to know what kind they are. most of the emblems are rusted off or missing. is there a book or web site that would help

What you are doing is a lot of fun. My first "real" bike came out of a trash heap. I didn't know it at the time, but the frame was ever so slightly bent. After I rehabilitated it, I took a ride on it and nearly came off on the first turn. Being stubborn, I decided that this bike was not going to get the best of me and so I learned to ride it, even as squirreley as it was. I still have it and whenever I feel bored with my other bikes, I'll drag it out and ride it on an unpopulated section of our local bike trail. It reminds me how nice it is to ride my newer bikes. It is also the main reason that I have only had one crash on a bike in 39 years. With this thing, you really learn how to ride, or at least how to concentrate while you ride!
