inner chainring spacers for 1993 LX cranks?

I've got a NOS set of Shimano LX 5-arm 110/74 bcd crankarms (1993?)
that, as far as I know, require spacers between the arm and the inner
chainring. How do I determine which size spacers to use? I seem to
recall somewhere in the 2-3mm range. Is there a rule of thumb?

I'll use Shimano 8-speed chainrings and either an 8x or 9x SRAM
chain.

Thanks,

The first link is Sugino bolts and spacers. Cheap and generic. 4mm
spacers in this kit. I'd go with that width. Or find a newer triple
crank with the molded in lugs on the back of the spider and measure
how far they stick up.
