  1. As above, im interested in getting back into some basic cycling (fitness
training needed, bigtime!) and looking for something second hand and cheap
for me (big bloke, 6'2", ~100kg), and my missus to start out on.
As this is a starter, cheap and (no so) nasty is the right recepie here,
thought you guys might have a few ideas / contacts..

BTW, some great info on this forum.

    Thanks,
    Joel

    G'day Joel,

If you already haven't done it, go around to some of the second hand dealers
(pawn shops) in your area if there is any, or maybe a closer and larger
town, if any, they often have used bikes for sale, but what ever you do,
considering your weight, don't buy one of those Kmart/ Big W
    specials.....Huffy, dunlop etc

Garage sales are one of the best ways to pick up good used bikes, provided
the bikes aren't of those brands from the above stores.

Seeing you already have access to the internet and you might be within an
hour or two from a capital city, ebay is another way to get a good decent
    used cheap bike.

I don't know your preference, but perhaps one of the early 80's racer type
bikes would come cheap at around 50-80 dollars or a earlier large frame
mountain bike with no suspension (stay away from cheap suspension models)
you are better off with a solid fork than cheap or worn suspension.I reckon
the front suspension makes the bikes unnessarily heavy. For the wife, a
smaller mountain bike or one of the earlier ladies bikes are quite cheap 2nd
    hand.
Or....even better, have a good look around and see if you can find an old
tandem to ride or do up.....2 bikes in one and are very strong.

    Hope this helps

    DJ

  3. thanks for that.. i used to have an old malv. star when i was younger (im
25, so like 10 yrs ago) which was a good solid thing, im thinking something
similar would be the go? it had full shimano setup on it which i fitted and
was a good thing, untill a major stack which stuffed wheels and [censored].
So the "cheapo" chain store stuff is [censored]? as for susp., im not really
interested in it, i only ride on-road, and am used to riding a "solid" bike,
so thats a no brainer.. was looking at someones site (link was mentioned
here, ideal cycles?), what are those Indi's like? IF i was to buy new,
whould they be ok, as that would be my upper limit cost wise, for the moment
    anyway.

    Thanks!

    Joel
