"Kohl, a 26 year-old Austrian from Klagenfuhrt, waited a long time in the doping control truck and missed the helicopter that could get him off the mountain quickly."

"It’s impossible to mask an average dose of EPO in the first three days after injection. Unless you can thin your urine. That’s what I saw at the Tour two years ago, as an observer for the UCI. In one particular team none of the riders managed to provide a urine sample for an hour and a half after the race. They couldn’t, so they had to drink a lot. All of them from the same team, very strange. But coincidence? Probably not. Because there are two ways to thin your urine: either you take diuretics, but those are on the list, or you drink litres of water. A watery urine makes it harder for us. A few riders of that team tested positive later on, but you’ll understand that I can’t name the team."

After Rasmussen won his TDF stage in 2005 he also took forever to give his urine sample. I think he nearly missed the plane that had to transport the riders before the rest day or would have missed it if it hadn't been delayed. It was somthing like that.

Sounds like a bit of a hit or miss tactic - drinking a pantload of water and hoping it does not show?

To combat that, they need 2 or three fountains in the place, and riders should have to put both hands in warm water while sitting there.

I talked to a guy that did the doping control at the Philly races a few years back. He was told that he was to grab the winner by the arm and escort him to testing. He was warned that it was the soigners job to physically remove the tester from the rider and that they were really good at running interference. Leon von Bon wins and the tester is able to get him into the testing room which has a shower. Von Bon breaks the grip and jumps in the shower and pisses in his bibs without the water running. After that, it tooks hours and liters of water to get another sample. Don't know if its true. Its just what I heard.
