This may not be the newest issue. It is the most important.
Our growing loss of cherished rights and freedoms.
The British police last week executed an innocent man without hesitation. He
was not the suspected Arab terrorist but a worthy Brazilian electrician. (Oh
well, all those darkly complected people are the same, aren't they?)
Here in Canada several people have been clapped in solitary confinement for
months and even years. Not only have no charges been laid against them,
neither they nor their lawyers are given any reason.
The US operates virtual concentration camps complete with torture chambers.
The great republic is gripped by the pumped up paranoia of phoney
patriotism.
Rights and legal principles which have evolved with great struggle over a
millennium are being discarded. There has been national handwringing in both
Canada and the US over what we did to the Japanese in 1941 yet we are doing
precisely the same thing to Arabs and Muslims!!!
One wonders if, rather than blasted busses and torn trains this is the real
objective of the bombers.
They have put our belief in law and justice to the test and we have failed!
