Are all "Look" pedals and cleats intercompatible or is the Look "Keo"
different to regular Look pedals?

exactly. The Keo is Look's 2nd generation pedal system.
The cleat is smaller but gives more contact area.

They have since released cheaper/heavier versions.

Also, the older style pedals have two different compatible cleats. One cleat allows 'float' and the other doesn't.

Keo has the classic Red and Black cleats, and the new Grey(half
float).
