Attentive readers may recall a certain Per Löwdin of Upsalla who popped
up on this very froup some weeks ago enquiring where he could find the
best singletrack in the UK. I spent a very pleasant morning showing Per
and his wife - delightful people, both, and better cyclists than I -
around the Dalbeattie red route, and left them with instructions to get
to Kirroughtrie. When I got home I found two Austrian fire dancers in
the back kitchen. There are worse places to live in summer (or, indeed,
at any other time).

I know which I'd rather find when I got back from a long ride;
I mean, there's not much meat on an Austrian fire dancer.

I did some bloke-style washing up in my kitchen yesterday. You know
how it goes: wash the five items on the draining board, wipe cooker
top, get out Swiss cleaner and clean cooker top, notice doors need
cleaning, dismantle doors, degrease and polish, reassemble cooker,
wash floor...

or these:

largely depending on gender. Sheesh, don't you people know anything?

Were you present? Did you get to witness the Alabama 3 in full
splendour? If I'd known, I'd have come back up north sooner and attended!

No, I didn't go this year. I was actually the person who put the torch to
the first wickerman of the present series, though, back in 2002. It's
only three miles up the road.
