I recently just got back from the LBS looking for an entry level road bike that I can use and perhaps do some light racing on.

the guy showed me to the Jamis Ventura Comp. Seems like a really nice bike.

its 875$ along with fitting and getting me on the trainer to fine tune it.

anyone here have any input on this? should I got for it?

I have one and nearly 2000kms later I still really like it.:)

I bought mine because a friend has one, plus it was editors choice in one of the bike mags a couple of years ago. You get a lot of good components for what you pay.

If you do get one I would recommend to:
1.Replace the standard tektro brake pads (black calipers, grey pads on my version) as they are very abrasive and will wear the sides of the rims very quickly. I used shoes that fit Shimano Tiagra brakes and they work well.
2. Fit a chain keeper/watcher thing to the seat tube. Certain combinations of gearing were causing the chain the jump past the smaller front sprocket and fall on the frame when shifting. It happened 4 or 5 times in 1500kms or so and always at a bad time. The chain keeper has fixed that. :)
