Contador hasn’t won a stage yet, but he’s finessed his way into a 41-second lead over Riccardo Riccò thanks to a superb time trial in stage 10 and three consistent performances across the Dolomites.

Astana showed up at the Giro with a week’s notice, but the team has grown stronger during two weeks of racing. Experience and pride will make up for any lack of fitness the team carries into the final week of racing.

The team lost Steve Moribito with a dislocated shoulder in the first week, but with Contador in the pink jersey, Levi Leipheimer and Andreas Klöden will now ride to support the Spanish climber. Astana’s arm of unsung Kazakh troopers along with Vladimir Gusev and Toni Colom will join forces to bring the pink jersey to Milan.

Contador doesn’t have to attack in mountain stages to Presolana on Friday and over the Gavia and Mortirolo to Tirano on Saturday. He can ride defensively, marking the wheels and saving his legs to battle Riccò for finish-line time bonuses.

Relax man.
It's obvious this is ordered article. Maybe even written in Astana's kitchen.
And, have you noticed, there's always great Eddy Merckx to support Bruyneel's rider and give the team credibility when is thick (remember his reactions after six positives and his friendly relation with Armstrong during seven years, well, maybe not right from the beginning of his winning streak, but not long after it... Just in time to remove all doubts and give credibility to new greatest TDF rider ever). I wonder, how much does he take for this favors?
Bruyneel is not just "best DS ever", he's greatest spin doctor amongst DSs.

Remember when Velonews confronted doping in cycling with a front-page story, complete with needle + syringe full-page photo? Remember how ticked Armstrong was? Remember how upset Trek was? Remember how other advertisers suddenly got upset?

Like nearly everyone else making a buck off professional cycling, Velonews knows which way the wind blows. Don't expect that publication to face reality, particularly now that revenue is measured in pageviews and uniques instead of subscriptions.

that article is so over the top even for Velonews standards. It's interesting that they can rake RR over the coals, but are so afraid to tackle Astana.

I guess we know who has influence.

Maybe it's time to post on the VN forum.

It has gone downhill at VN since Helmut left the editorial staff... :(

The Velonews boys got their wording all up the creek today when interviewing Levi.... reload ? really.........
_____

VN: So now you reload for the Dauphiné?

LL: That’s the plan. I don’t know about what Alberto will do. It depends on what happens here.

Many many thanks for the article. I enjoyed it.
