I ride quite a bit - not as much as some of you - but I average about 120 miles a week. My daughter's 24 year old boyfriend asked me if he could ride with me to improve his conditioning. He's a fireman and is on their county's "Combat Challenge" team. He played college football and works out like a mad man. Of course I said "Sure!" and helped him outfit with what he needed. He met me at my house, but for 2 hours before he got there my wife harped on me continuously - "Don't you hurt that boy!", "Don't go too fast, he'll fall out trying to keep up with you", "Make sure he drinks enough". After he showed up, he told me that he had to promise my daughter that he would keep his cell phone with him, so he could call me if he couldn't keep up. She told him "Now don't you try to keep up with him if he goes too fast, he'll hurt you!" She made him promise! We had a great ride, I was polite and set a nice, easy pace and we both had fun.

Being 44 and a little overweight, it did my heart good that everybody was so worried that the young buck would "get hurt" trying to run with me.

Granted, as a "potential" future son-in-law, he'd have been a moron to try and stick it to you on a ride... Better to let Dad win. :D Give him some credit for basic good judegement and common sense. :)

Now don't...I say, don't hurt the boay! Someday he's gonna grow up to be a BIG chicken hawk! LOL!

That's a funny story. reminds me of a month ago, I took my 25 y.o. cousin on a ride that was just 12.5 miles each way. No climbs, etc., it was a basically easy ride in my book. He's not at all used to riding, but he wanted to go anyway. We had to stop about 5 times on the way back, had a strong headwind, but we hadn't gone fast down or back.

He was one hurtin' unit the next day he said. :D
