I've got the shoes, but I use M540 pedals with the SPD cleats. I go back and forth between mountain biking and road biking but surely love the shoes. I've had no issues with them and they're certainly comfortable.

The R540 pedals are a great entry to SPD-SL but don't last too well, I wore out my only pair with only ~8000km. Their DA replacements have done >20,000km and are still smooth and without bearing play.

If I got almost 5000 miles out of them I would be more than happy. Where the hell do you ride to get up to 8000km? Do you live in Montauk and work in Los Angeles? That's awesome though. I'm up to 30 miles/48km. /img/vbsmilies/smilies/ROTF.gif Thanks for the replies. Plus I just got myself another new toy.
