OK,I have an old school nishiki that I have decided to sell ( and I actually like the bike),and ordered a JAMIS Allegro 1 today.

I am mostly a fitness rider (runner mostly in all actuallity) but I do love riding. Just curious what some hardcore road bikers might think of bikes such as the Allegro 1 (Urbans/hybrids/etc) joining the road bike group? because I will be joining the local ride group around here when I get the new bike, and all the bikes I have seen in the group are pure road bikes...Really wont care if they dont "like" my bike to be honest, just kind of curious...OK let me have it!!!

Who cares what anyone else thinks. If you can keep up with the group, ride with them. If they've got a problem with it, they're not worth riding with.

Thanks man, thats kind of my feeling, but just wanted some opinions from some hardcore/dedicated road bike riders. And I was actually keeping up with and leaving some of the group last saturday on the old 18 speed hybrid nishiki ...dont ask me how,but I was.

If you join a road bike club that ride mostly road bikes you might feel out of place. Yes, I have seen runners do well on the bicycle but that is a different story. Yes, a lot of runners just "don't get it".
It has been my experience that when a person joins a road bike club with a hybrid or a mtn bike within the next year they find themselves buying a road bike. If you can afford to do that it's like having your cake and eating it too. However, if you can only afford to buy one bike then you should look into the type of bikes that the other people have that you will be riding with. As the saying goes, " you don't go to a gunfight with a knife, would you?"

Thank you for your input crazymike.I would never get a mnt bike for the road, lol As far as feeling out of place, how do you think I felt riding a '95 nishiki hybrid,LMAO!!! ( or how did some of the riders feel when I was passing them?) anywho could you elaborate on the "just dont get it" comment?

A friend of mine used to join in on the weekly fast ride. On his mtn bike. And was always keeping up with the leaders. And yeah, some guys used to get ****** that he was able to keep up. Except on the fast descents where he didn't have the proper gearing.

I went on a long 120k group ride last month and I was surprised to see 2-3 guys on single speeds. Gave them props for actually coming out and even trying.

Good on you for riding your bike with the roadies. Some of us can be pricks! Snobs even.

WOW!!! A single speed rider certaintly need props for sure.In my opinion I will be riding(when the bike comes in) a 90% road bike, more or less, but with straight bars :pbut we will see how it goes...Im just excited to get the jamis!!! and to add another question to my newb-osity...does any riders not wear the "banana hammick" shorts? I have had no issues wearing the helmet,or brightly colored shirts(I am a runner so had plenty of those!!) but cant seem to wanna show off the ol'king snake in a pair of shorts like that...

No one can see your dorkus when you're on the bike.

LOL,@ Dorkus...but when you get off the bike..the ol'grubworm is there!!!

No one seems to mind in my town. There be hundreds of cyclists each day out in lycra shorts/bibs. I figure close to half of the population has, as you put it, grubworms, and everyone knows about it....so lycra doesn't reveal anything new. Women wear tight tops and often sport camel toes, so I figure it all washes out in the end.

Well, when you put it that way,haha...yes I seen a few ladies with moose knuckles myself last saturday when I rode:eek:...And I have always been that way I guess:eek:

It's a great way to meet cyclists of the opposite sex.......or, I guess, of the same sex, too, if someone slides down that flume.

As in all walks of life and all sports you may come across some bike snobs who wouldn't be seen dead on any bike but a......inset what you like, The bottom line is, riding is meant to be fun, you can make it as strenuous or light as you like the choice is yours. If anyone doesn't like your bike who cares what they think, it's their problem not yours. If the group you want to ride with are not happy with your bike don't bother with them, they're not the kind of people you want to ride with. I suspect however, that they won't give a damm as long as you keep up.
Just enjoy your riding. Life's too short to get involved in this bike's better than that arguments.

Hey thanks for the input...I cant wait to ride with the group,I'm sure nobody will say a word to me,but I'm sure some "snobs" will me mumbling something along the way,lol but again I really dont care just wanted some input, and I am getting it:D...speaking of which,as a runner,I have yet to wave at a rider even 1 time while running, and even get an acknowledgement that I was even there...I'm not sure what this is all about but as many times as I have given a friendly wave or nod,it cant just be a coincidence...

It's human nature, that's all. It's got nothing to do with running or cycling. Some folks wave. Some don't.

I suppose this is true...I'm gonna start waving at other cyclist when riding and see if I get any better response,lol...and to break the monotony of this thread...I found something that had me laughing so hard I couldn't breath,it is completely and utterly unrelated but...ENJOY!!!

Nice! Almost as nice as my mom's recipe for fried apple pies.

It was a wise decision, choosing, as you did, the best color possible for a bike: black. Remember what Confucius said:
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist a black bike, and begin slitting throats.
Well, it was something like that...
