At least I think it's a Kendall. It say's "Schwinn Approved", but it is definitely NOT Bendix. It
looks exactly the way I remember my Western Flyer hub from 35 years ago (sniff...).
This is on an eBay-acquired Schwinn. When did Schwinn quit using Bendix?
Most importantly, the braking is weird. There is resistance to back- pedalling. Then, if feels like
something snaps, and the brake shoes engage
- hard!
Any of you old timers have experience working on these brakes? Would pumping more oil through the
clip fix this, or should I overhaul? If I overhaul, do I go in through the arm side? (I have a
dissection guide for Bendix, and you do those from the sprocket side. This hub, however, looks like
one goes from the arm.)
