  1. I have a Kestrel EMS Pro SL carbon bar and after three years it has developed a crack on the curve between the stem and brake lever. It goes about half way thru. Kestrel said to send it back for review. Has anyone heard of this sort of thing? It has not been crashed on. I gather from the Kestrel site that it should last a "lifetime". O.K.
I am about 140 lbs and the bar has about 35,000 miles.

    Isn't that a lifetime?

I know what you mean. That is a lot of miles. I thought that carbon was good for several zillion cycles. Not really but when should things like carbon bars be replaced?. I change ti quick releases every 3-4 years and other parts as well (stem) just to be safe. Not all carbon is the same and there a a lot of other variables as well so I don't expect a simple answer. I just didn't expect that bar to crack. Got an Oval Concepts bar. Very nice and it has some kind of kevlar "airbag" to prevent it from breaking in two. While on the subject of bars I read that there are fake Zipp bars being sold. They are lighter than the real Zipp bar. Scary stuff. SNAP! This is really all George Ama's fault. Oh Carbon Fufu, where are you? Out running marathons and bleading the beast all from the comfort of his past due morgage house in Mt Peaks.

  4. Hey, is carbon fiber supposed to last forever? I thought it lasts lifetime too!

  5. All I can say is keep us posted: Though you've certainly got a lot of good out of these bars, they should still step up with a new set.

Matters to me-- I have 2 kestrels, love them, hope the company is worthy.
