Could be anything from just transient pain, to pinched nerves, to
something wrong with the sciatic nerve. Best thing would be to see
a doctor. And if you can help it, try not to sit for prolonged periods.
Get up and take a break, stretch once in a while.

Why do you think it's got something to do with the elliptical machine?
What happens when you stop using it for some time?

Jobs is right, it may not be the elliptical. But...it could be. I had knee
pain in both knees after I had used elliptical and stair-stepper for a few
months. Turned-out I caused a muscle imbalance in my quads and had
developed patella-femoral syndrome. I caused my knees to get off track when
    I bent them.

The obvious thing is- see a doctor. I went to an orthopaedic guy. 1st guy
told me that I would have to stop running and cycling forever. So- I
stopped seeing him. Got a new doc and some real help. That was several
years ago and I'm doing much better now.

Before you freak out any further, see the doc, dude. See the doc.

  4. Sounds like back problem, probably pinched nerves. See a chiropractor.

Go to a Chiro when you want to get rid of your money and make your problem
worse. Go to a doc when you want someone with real education and the
ability to help you get better.
