Krystals? A newbie question on sponsorships...

Hey folks Okay, please excuse the ignorance, but here goes: I realized that Ryan Trebon (NC lad
headed to the cyclocross worlds) was sponsored by Krystals (the White Castle of the South) and I
was wondering
1) Does it seem odd to anyone else that Krystals would sponsor a team? Maybe not. I mean, if
McDonalds can sponsor the Olympics and Viagra can sponsor Mark Martin in NASCAR, maybe
anything is game.
1a) How does one find/join/get noticed by such a team (this is mere curiosity, not self-interest
-- I have no skills or delusions thereof)? It's not like you'd walk into Krystals and ask
for a jersey.
1b) Is there a website (I've tried google) for such a team?
2) What is the oddest cycling sponsorship?

Okay, I was just wondering...

Wouldn't surprise me if one of the members of the club works for Krystal Corporate HQ. Oh ... and it
is "Krystal" not "Krystals" or "Krystal's".

At one point, you could buy one at River City Bicycles, in North Chattanooga, however.

The closest I've found is http://www.rivercitybikes.com ... which is the shop most closely
associated with the team.

Krystal picked up many regional riders, who had good reputations/palmares and who simply asked to
join the team. They had a lot of money for a small regional amateur team and never completely filled
their roster last year because of their insistence that all team members race MTBs.

This year, the "Backyard Burgers" team put of Memphis is makig a push, emphasizing younger riders in
the Southeast/Mid-South. Seems like a pattern. Although, in their defense, they do have a soy burger
that is pretty good.

Kent cigarettes used to sponsor a race in China or Malaysia, where every adult smokes...

The Krystals team is an elite squad based out of Chattanooga, TN that does both road and mtb. I
think they are associated with River City Bicycles down there. The owner of the shop has some good
connections hence the Krystals support. "Kristin Garau" <[email protected]> wrote in message

The Erotic Discount Centre used to sponsor a Dutch amateur team. Of bike racers I mean. Cool purple
jerseys with "the love connection" written on them.

The old Wheelsmith store in Palo Alto, CA, was part museum and mostly retail store. One of the
photos hanging in the stairwell leading down to the mechanics area was of a team in Copenhagan,
Denmark(?) The sponsor was a local brothel! The photo was of the team and the "ladies" who worked at
the brothel.

Great perks?

Krystal is a Chattanooga based company that sponsored a local club (Taco Bell was a previous
sponsor). Last year they put together enough money to field a strong regional amateur team, and did
well in regional P12 races. But, there was a catch: racers had to do a significant number of MTB
races, so many local 1,2 riders chose not to approach the team that apparently was pretty flush last
year (despite Krystal's filing for bankruptcy several years ago). I am not sure what their status is
this year, I know that one of their best riders, Travis Hutchinson, is on the new DIII team in
Atlanta. Saul Raisin, of Dalton, GA, was a member last year, as well; as posted in the NG, he is on
Ofoto this year, and rode/rides on the national U-23 team. Another of their riders was the first
American finisher at this year's MTB Ruta de los Conqustadores in Costa Rica. Greg Miller
