Hey all,
I just bought a new pair of Mavic Ksyrium Sl's and went to install my dura ace 10 speed cassette on them, but when the lock ring is tight there is still alot of pay prob 2-3mm.
The question is do i need some sort of spacer ? Oh and the wheels are new 04 models

I think the Shimano-compatible freehub is supposed to come with a spacer installed. I got a new set of 05 SLs a few months back, and it didn't have a spacer. I got 0.5mm and 1mm spacers from a shop; the 0.5 spacer seemed to fit best alignment-wise, but it does seem like my lockring gets a little loose.

After doing some looking around on the web, it seems they come with a spacer, it looks to be about 2mm thick (from what i can guees from the pics) can anyone tell me how thick the needed spacer is to run 10 speed on them ?
Thanks

2mm is definitely too thick. I run mine with 0.5mm (no play that I can feel), but as I noted, the lockring is noticeably looser when I check it occasionally. I also found a post somewhere after much Googling that said 0.5mm. I have some 1mm spacers that I haven't tried, but should at some point.

If this will be the only wheel that you run, you can go ahead and put your 2mm spacer in there, then adjust your rear derailleur accordingly. Just don't expect to be able to put another wheel in there without adjusting it back.

Shimano makes a spacer called the CS-7800 spacer. I had to put in two of these to get my lockring to tighten properly on my Mavic Cosmic Carbones. Ksyriums are probably the same way.

Thanks mate,
I just came back from the lbs and they fitted a small spacer (maybe 1.5 mm and it is now sweet as without any problems.
Thanks again for the heads up though.

on other than mavic hubs, I use the thin spacer that comes with the shimano cassette. on mavic hubs, I have to use one that is considerably thicker. when you tighten the lockring, you should be able to realize when it is a good fit and correct spacing.
