Mostly it's in say the third week of the tour when they have been doing long stages in very
hot weather.

It's really a great feeling to be as fit as me and able to do 3-5 hour tempo rides day after day and
ride something like the 135 gram SLR Selle Italia.

When I am touring, (often in the hot, humid weather of Iowa) I spend more time on the bike than that. I think time on the bike is a big issue.

After 25 years of 'been there, done that,' I'd rather sit in a chair than to perch on a bagel
splitter. As for the fit part, if you are anywhere near to being 'euro fit' in real life, you are
too weak to even do my warmup exercises for swimming.
