I have not seen the doping issue discussed from this angle yet: This year LA quite plainly destroyed the opposition, as a matter of fact, much of the expected opposition abandoned (some due to accidents).
Is it possible that the reason LA was so dominant this year is that he has never taken performance enhancing drugs, whilst many of his rivals have, but this year they had to reduce or stop their dosages due to the more stringent testing?
Perhaps that is why they all seemd to be no match - they could only compete with LA if THEY were doping, whilst he has never doped - the competition would be non existant when everyone is racing on their true, un-enhanced, ability.

Or, of course, that lots of others have ruined their bodies through taking things

Personally if you work hard, have a great team who think 'team and only team', are know and understand the course, you are bound to do well. It has always made sense to me to train on the important climbs in the Pyrennes, the Alps and the time trials.
