Lance Armstrong is chamber's pick as 2010 Austinite of the Year
Quote: statesman.com Armstrong, 39, a seven-time winner of the Tour de France, will receive the honor at the chamber's annual meeting on Feb. 9.
The chamber typically picks people from the business community for the recognition, the highest award it hands out each year.
But Armstrong's advocacy for cancer research and his community activism made him an easy choice this year, said Barry Mayer, chamber chairman and president of Tokyo Electron, U.S. Holdings.
Armstrong's "commitment and notable record of service to this community are unmatched," Mayer said in a news release.
Armstrong said he was honored to be chosen.

Interesting timing considering the investigation headed by Jeffrey Novitzky. He has certainly put cycling on the map and the contribution of his foundation is significant. Is he the right choice for Austinite of the Year?

keep in mind this is the chamber of commerce from austin, texas. it is known to the local liberal set as the austin chamber of concrete.
