The romance race is over for Kate Hudson, 29, and her Tour de France cycling champ, Lance Armstrong.

According to Us, they have ended their very high-profile romance.

"There was no drama or ugliness. They just decided to end things," a source tells the magazine. "There is no hatred, just sadness."

Although they had been spotted around in Cannes, Austin, New York and Los Angeles -– neither had spoken publicly about the relationship.

Kate even attended Lance's three-day Livestrong Summit in Columbus, Ohio, this past weekend. That was where the decision to end it was made. To see photos of them at the Backstage Creations suite at the American Century Golf Championship on July 9, where they looked very happy and chummy, click here.

Sheesh, they'd even met each other's families. Lance's mom liked having lunch with Kate at the Ivy by the Shore. And Kate's 4-year-old son, Ryder, went to a June Dad's Day brunch with Armstrong and his father, rocker Chris Robinson.

Armstrong's rep had no comment. A rep for Hudson could not be reached.

They seemed so perfect together. What went wrong? Was it just a spat? What do you think?

- Someone needs to put a book together of Lance's doping denials coupled with his breakup statements to the media.

Do you think he is trying to see how many celebs he can notch on his bed post before his own celebrity wears thin... or do you think it only takes a certain time before the gals find out his true character? Or both?

Lance must have been off his nut to split up with Kate Hudson.

Really? Constant bickering after only three months?

Maybe these "relationships" are more like business "arrangements" for his PR image and to lay to bed (pun intended) any rumors about him and Matthew McC . . .

The bickering is just another example of Lance's testiness.

Gee...they met each other's families? Wow! Don't you think his family might want to meet Kate Hudson... Or that his mom might like having lunch at the friggin Ivy with Kate Hudson...  Like that makes it serious... :p Lance probably can't get in the Ivy.. :D

Lance is riding the Leadville 100 - any chance of FLandis riding too and having a dopers reunion head to head re-match?

He's just looking for publicity now that he's a nobody again.

Word is buzzing through the online media that seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong is training to race the Leadville 100, a 100-mile mountain bike race in Colorado August 9.

"It's huge for the race, of course, but even more grand and more meaningful to our community, because now the national and the international spotlight will be on Leadville," promoter Ken Chlouber told the Summit Daily.

Former cross-country pro David Wiens won the event in 2007, which saw Floyd Landis participate and Armstrong cancel his planned participation due to conflicts. According to the Summit Daily, Armstrong is reportedly training in nearby Aspen, Colorado to adjust to Leadville's 10,200-foot elevation.

The Leadville course, 50 miles out and back, includes a seven-mile climb from 10,200 to 12,600 feet elevation. Wiens, 43, has won it five consecutive times, starting in 2003. He won in 2007 with a time of 6:58:46, more than two minutes ahead of Landis.

"(Armstrong's) coming to win," Chlouber told the newspaper. "I’m sure he’s got his guns strapped on, and he’ll be coming full blast ... We’re going to put him on the front row, right besides Dave Wiens, and I expect it’ll be a shootout right from the get-go."
