Did you ever notice that Lance has really bad dress sense ? Jan, Ivan, Damiano, and others look the part and dress cool but Lance has no idea.... he really is tied by the apron strings.... he is a mummy’s boy…… its noted that since he has been going out with Sheryl he has been wearing leather jacket... but he has worn the same leather jacket every single TV appearance, interview and comedic stunt on a TV talk show.... he really just doesn't cut it as a celeb............ to be honest its not hard to tell he is from redneck roots and drags his knuckles somewhat......... now Ivan he is cool, he knows how to dress.... glad Lance has retired so the others can bring back some chutzpah into cycling…..

I agree with you, Lance needs help with attire. Is his belt unbuckled ?

At least he never gets helmet hair.:D

Now lets have a look at Ivan and Jan... how cool are these blokes... maybe more at home on the catwalk or on the set of Miami Vice ? Move over Don Johnson here comes Jan ! :)

sartorial elegance : looking at mr Ullrich on "Living with Bianchi" documentary the man lives in Addidas wear.
(maybe he did so cause the camera was rolling and was pushing one of his sponsors).

but sartorial elegance and cyclists are oil and water : look at Cippo and his naff 1980's look in 2004 !
    C'mon.
But the Italians usually brush up well.

Indurain these days looks like he's moulded in to a cream windsheeter.
he wears the same bloody thing all the time - maybe Marisa makes him wear it ?

Cycle Sport did a feature on Kloden a few months back - he look well in a suit

I go for the Badger look myself : kaki trousers and blue blazer : the old "je ne sais quoi"

I did see the Cycle Sport edition with Kloden; He had the 'German investment banker' look in his pin-stripe suit... did you also see the picture when he was in his big furry jacket and there was some chic in a bikini on the antique sofa behind him ? All class.

This months Cycle Sport has Basso in flash duds... one shot has him wearing a red suit with a bike from the 1930's...

I also remember a story from some magazine that for the centenary dinner of living Tour de France champions.. it was in some remote town in southern France and about 28 of the still living former champions rocked up in suit and tie as the invitation stated including Patani. However Armstrong decides to rock up in his customary open neck shirt and chinos looking like a auditor from KPMG... he had a cry to Pro Cycling magazine that certain people wouldn't talk to him because he wasn't wearing a tie ! What a loser... and with all that money why couldn't he get a stylist ?

.....and here's the picture that you were referring to with the KPMG trainee in the backrow along with a bunch of cyclists !
(note the Badgers two tone look backrow extreme right).

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2002/tourpres03/?id=CH8

......so the KPMG trainee was in a sulk because someone wouldn't talk
    to him !!
    Paaaaaaallllllllleeeeeeeeeeessssssssse.

Ullrich's woman looks very well in those photos.
I had never seen her before.
Not bad Jan, not bad at all.

Jan does scrub up quite nicely.

He's had some very bad hair moments over the years though. Remember 2004? That was some serious helmet hair he had going on.

Ullrich wasn't wearing a tie either.

I wonder, was it the lack of a tie or was it the aura of smug self-righteousness that turned people off? :p

Thanks for the photos LM; I have to say that the entire front row appears to be holding there 'belly's' in... Roche in particular has let himself go and is carrying a spare tyre around the waist (have a look, he can barley do up his suit coat!).... right you say about the Badger... looking very good in the two tone and has managed to keep the weight off as well....

Armstrong's sulk was your typical 'I was abandoned by my father and I will always have a massive chip on my shoulder until I have a breakdown at 40 and become an alcoholic' type of rant that he has tendencies to go on... you know the type; The French hate me, the press hate me, the fans hate me, the other cyclists hate me, former Tour de France winners hate me, everyone hates me…..its well documented in psychology books and is typical behaviour from young men who suffer from 'abandonment syndrome' and lack a father figure during adolescence.

Ullrich was looking dashing that night, he may of dispensed with the tie but he had some form of ‘Sgt Pepper’ look going on with the suit coats lapels up to his neck… all class is Jan.

Armstrong aka ‘the KPMG trainee’ had no such attire and looked like he was dressed by his mother. Oh dear. Even LeMond made an effort and he was a bit of a Mummy’s boy as well. (remember Cathy’s sunglasses at the end of the 1989 Tour de France time trail ? culpable !)

The Badgers two tone look is smart - and as you say he still looks reasonably
    fit.
Indurain managed to prize himself out of the cream windsheeter and got Marisa to buy him a nice blue suit.

Roche looks like a man on the piss - since him and Lydia separated.

Ullrich's nehru jacket shows some style and MP looks slightly bewildered.

In the dapper class, we have Felice Gimondi with the Robert Vaughn/Napoleon
    Solo look.

I agree about LeMond he looks like a school master !

Roche's eating and Guinness drinking is out of control..... didn’t realize that he split up with his wife.... these guys are able to eat a lot during the racing careers as they can burn it all off but once they stop the food just hits the waistline....

You're right about LeMond he does look like a high school math’s teacher.... interesting enough he is standing next to Fignon... thought these two hated each other ? Fignon has lost the blonde flowing locks and pony tail but gained a goatee beard (and a few pounds).

The omni presence of big Bjarne Riis is at the back not giving away too much.... in good shape as well.

However I think the prize has to go to Merckx.... check out his maroon number coupled with pale yellow shirt and 1950's funeral director's tie.... very nice… give that man a cigar….

I have to agree... Big Mig would be just at home playing a DeNiro type role as mafia man running a Casino as he would be climbing d'Huez.....
