    His hip problem does make what he has accomplished since more compelling. That he could suffer through all that pain, and still do well, is quite impressive.

    How about Bruyneel's point about why Landis/Phonak would want to reveal such a key weakness to competitors? Couldn't they have waited until Paris?

    Better to reveal a weakness to your cycling competitors than leave an opening for the media. The media would make a lot more money announcing Landis on cortisone than they would printing his explanation. Steal their thunder with an announcement, and the witch hunt is defused.

    It ends up being a Hobson's choice. This way, at least Floyd can face known competitors on the road, rather than invisible opponents in the panicky world of public opinion.

    I thought the thread was about Landis & Phonak. However, if you are going to take out any team with suspicions of doping, you would be left with about 3 people riding.

    Maybe Landis is trying to forestall ASO prohibiting him from using his ITT position (the handlebars higher than in the first ITT). If he announces a medical problem for his position, it makes ASO seem more brutal to deny him the use of the position. But that advantage from announcing must surely be offset by his competitors knowing Landis has weaknesses.

    Why would he go on about how his hip hurts more on the STEEP climbs? :confused:

    so guys who think they can climb like george hincapie will attack on the climbs and try to take time out of him. and then, since floyd is such a badass he will fight through the pain and climb with them. how would it feel being george hincapie knowing that you can't take time out of a guy who has a bad hip. or better yet, how does it feel being levi leipheimer knowing that you lost 5 mins in a TT to a guy with a bad hip. maybe there is some reverse psychology at play.

    And therefore I didn't understand your point about a single rider...

    I did not mention a "single rider". I mentioned 5 riders from Phonak. 3 already caught doping. Team nearly lost ProTour licence. Now more evidence of ongoing doping in the team. ProTour licence should have been revoked.

    ASO would never do that: it's still the UCI making the rules about the formats, weight etc. of the bikes.

    Agreed. Printed in the Times this morning states that he has special dispensation from the UCI to use as much gear as he wants.... lucky chap.... there is a lot of rumors going around the net at the moment that Landis was also a client of Fuentes... be interesting see what happens when the Tour gets to Spain.... maybe a few of the boys will be brought in for questioning.....

    Announcing the hip injury is the strategy used by Americans to win the TDF. Lemond suffered a life threatening gunshot wound and came back to be World champion and add 2 more TDF's to his name.

    La beat cancer and came back to win 7 TDF's.

    Landis is riding without a hip and looks like he has a chance....

    Makes me wonder why the Americans who we sent over that are healthy can't do anything in the TDF? [Julich, Hincapie, Tyler, Levi}

    A little trivia info here...... Lemond was shot by his brother-in-law as we know, but he was also shot, but not bad by Hinault. True story.... When Hinault came to America to recruit Lemond somehow Hinault peppered him with some buckshot.

    You have to love Landis. He's always honest.

    Who would have known that the food of champions is chocolate covered gummi bears and hamburgers. :D

    I am a fan of Landis. Nothing is certain this year and let's see how it will evolve.
