Last Chance for Tour of Missouri

Medalist Sports is saying Lance contacted them two weeks ago and said if the race was still on he'd be in it. ToM is putting out this information in an effort to get more people to spread it around and build more pressure for the Tour.

Yet.. why didn't Lance say this publicly? It's not like he doesn't know the Tour is on the ropes. George Hincapie and Lance both put pressure on the Governor last year. I don't think it's a big secret that if he came it would boost interest. I am having a hard time wanting to go around telling people LA will come to the ToM based on Medalist saying so, and not saying so two weeks ago!

Not to mention this whole story just got blown off the radar by Floyd...

anyone have an opinion on the likelihood that this is true...

In other developments, Lance Armstrong two weeks ago contacted Medalist Sports, which produces and promotes Tour of Missouri, to ask whether the race was still on. If it is, Armstrong intends to be in it, says Medalist Sports managing partner Chris Aronhalt.

What are the Governor personal reasons?

We have a bunch of people here complaining about the worlds being an inconvenience, mostly NIMBY types.

Latest update. Not that this as interesting as the big scandals of the day!

People are still trying so hard to convince the Governor of the value and importance of the event, but I don't think it matters. You can't argue with dysfunction. The office just keeps lying. He doesn't CARE about the value or lack of value or anything else. He's just being a stubborn jerk for personal reasons. Reasoning with him isn't going to make any difference.

But some people who have even supported him and donated to him in the past are so angry about this he may be in some trouble at election time. Won't save the Tour though.

It's about his grudge match with the Lieutenant Governor. The Lt Gov was instrumental in getting the race here three years ago... and when the Gov got elected he made it pretty clear he wasn't going to play ball (is that mixing metaphors?) as they are political rivals. It's pissing off members of his (the governor's) own party now, even people who supported him, donated to him, etc. Because it's GOOD for the state, because the legislature VOTED for it, and he's blocking it out of nothing but pettiness. He's mocked cycling, etc, angering a lot of people, and has given the dumbest and flimsiest of reasons for not having it.

He tried to pull the funding last year at the eleventh hour but so much was in the works he had to let it go... this year many attempts were made to kill it but with a lot of grass roots pressure, the legislature kept it in the budget.

So now, he's just directed the tourism commission to ignore it and refuse to spend the money. So whatever side people are on politically, they are very angry that he's abusing his position in such a childish and selfish manner. He's hurting the economy of our state.

What is NIMBY?

Oh! I thought it was some kind of organization! lol

No, EVERYONE WANTS THE TOUR... just not the stupid Governor. That's why it's making people so mad, it's popular and it gets bigger every year and actually does draw A LOT of out of state tourists, which is supposedly what the tourism commission is trying to do. There is no viable reason to stop it.

Now they are backing off this statement... they said they "overstated" that Lance "intends" to be here; that he simply inquired about the race.

Figured as much...
