Curious about the design of the twinpair spokes on crank brothers spokes. It seems generally accepted that increasing spoke tension (as long as the spoke is sufficiently tensioned) has little affect on lateral stiffness. Rather, it's the stiffness of the spoke itself that affects lateral stiffness of the wheel (among other factors, like bracing angle).

The axial force spoke tension contributes to a wheel should just be tension*sin(bracing angle) correct? So if crankbrothers is using a twinpair design, wouldn't these axial forces essentially be equal and opposite and cancel each other out (though it seems this effect would be minimal, as spoke tension contributes little to lateral stiffness in the first place)?

THe twinpair design doesn't change anything from that perspective. What happens in that wheel is the same thing that happens in any wheel.
Ony thing is that paired spokes allows you to use a lower spoke count w/o the rim undulating its way from a right-pulling spoke to a left-pulling spoke.
