Levi Leipheimer became the tenth American to win a stage of the Tour de France with a victory in Saturdayandrsquo;s 55-kilometer time trial from Cognac to Angoulandecirc;me. Leipheimer clocked a winning time of 1:02:45 to retain his third-place position in the overall standings behind race leader and teammate Alberto Contador and Cadel Evans. Leipheimerandrsquo;s time was 50 seconds faster than Evans and 1:56 quicker than third-place finisher on the day, Vladimir Karpets. Leipheimer closed the gap to second place to just eight seconds and now sits just 31 seconds off the pace of the yellow jersey in the closest-ever Tour de France podium.
