Levers...

Due to an unfortunate (although humorous looking I hear) incident on my rig one of my brake levers (right side) for XT hydros was pulled "back" (away from the bar) quite a bit. It seemed "broke" at first, but then after messing with it the brake works fine. Here's the issue: The lever is now very far away from the bar (even for my large-ish hands) and the adjustment screw is of no help now. Moving the pistons back into the calipers as you would when replacing pads/etc didn't help either.

I've tried my LBS (they stated it can not be repaired) and the only solution Shimano has is to buy replacement levers. Conveniently enough, you can only get them in pairs from Shimano apparently and the only two places I can find them after searching for a bit are out of them.

So, does anyone know of a replacement "option" for XT hydro levers or have an extra (right side) lever they want to sell? Thank you, thank you very much.

Bend them back... Use a vise and lots of force, but not on the lever
assembly itself. If it feels like it's going to yield, keep going till you
get them where you want them... breaking them won't hurt your wallet. Pull
hard on the newly bent-back levers... if they survive the first few *hard*
stops, then they should be fine thereafter. If they're painted, it'll flake
off. If anodized, they'll have small cracks in the finish. If they break,
then get new levers.

B.S. You LBS is probably only checking with distributors. Shimano
direct will ship individual levers as well as small parts if the shop
has an account. You didn't say what model you have. M755 levers are
being replace/upgraded to M756 with replacement. So if you have M755's
and you replace the whole lever you will have to relace the hose as
well(the tubing attachment has different threads between M755 & M756
models).

If only the lever blade is bent, you should be able to secure one for
~15 to 20 USD.

Talk to your LBS again ... after checking with Shimano and two
distributors I found that you should beable to get any M756 right small
parts need (not in cluding the main body), and that Shimano and BTI
both have M756 Right levers in stock. A complete lever (M756) should
set you back ~50 USD.

I replied yesterday, but NONE of my posts showed up (even checked Google
Groups). Don't know how you all managed...

Anyway, what I said was, since it's apparently trashed, why not try bending
that sucker back in place. Worked for my old XTR V-brake lever; not sure if
that applies to hydros though...
