But if corroborating evidence exists, then it adds to the book's
credibility. I've seen numerous documentaries and I've read many
in-depth articles over the years about the Tour's "drug problem", and
while LA has never been caught, he's certainly involved. If you can read
French, there's a wealth of info on the Web (and I'm talking about real
journalism here, not blogs or personal sites).

BTW, I don't care if these athletes use drugs. It would be nice if we
*knew* they were all drug-free, or *knew* they were all doped, but I
don't know if it will ever be possible to be sure one way or the other...

No, I made no such suggestion, nor did I intend to find meaning you
didn't intend. I am stating my views. I am not trying to paraphrase
yours. I leave that to your capable fingers. I deliberately used the
neutral "one" so as not to indicate that I was referring to "you".
Obviously that didn't work so well. :(

I was replying to your remark that I was obtuse because you didn't
think I understood Richard's position. I was trying to explain that I
understood his position (that divorce is always bad, or at best a
necessary evil), but I just don't agree with his assessment.
Understanding and agreeing are two completely different things.

I agree with you. :) The problem with Richard's assessment, as I see
it, is that he conflates a bad situation with the solution to the
problem and calls them both bad. I see solutions to bad situations as
assertive positive actions and I term this good.

Obviously, Richard planned his life when he was very young and allows
no deviance from the plan. Gangrene and bad decisions in spouse
selection were not on his list, therefore they can't happen.

You're implying that no smart person has ever gotten gangrene. That's
a bizarre implication. :-? I don't know anyone, smart or stupid, who
would _choose_ gangrene. But it still happens, whether anyone chooses
it or not and irregardless of how smart they are.

Hello, theocracy with a fundamentalist US Supreme
Court who will ensure church and state are joined
at the hip like clergy and altar boys.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president
represents, more and more closely, the inner soul
of the people. On some great and glorious day the
plain folks of the land will reach their heart's
desire at last and the White House will be adorned
by a downright moron." --- H.L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)
