    Hi,

I am cycling from london to sydney in april 2005 for the british red cross and friends of the earth.

I am a keen cyclist but i dont really know that much about specialist bikes. For my trip i need a light but sturdy bike that will last a whole year on variable terrain!

Can anyone give me some advice on what kind of bike i should get? how much will i need to spend? Also does a lady really need a ladies bike or doesnt it matter??

Thanks a lot for your help!:D
    ki

p.s. I have a website www.cyclingtosydney.com but its not quite uploaded yet!

Bloody Hell, that's a long way to ride...

    Get your website going !

You say you're doing it in April...? what about May June and July.

How long do you expect to take ?

I'd get a touring/expedition bike that comes with fenders, 32 mm tires, sturdy wheels, backrack, low gears, and a comfortable riding position. E.G., the Trek T30.

For more money, believe there are plenty of made-in-the UK options too. Just looked online and found Thorn bikes at St John Street Cycles in Bridgwater, Somerset....wouldn't mind having a Sherpa model myself!
