Long-Term Survival Ideas for Cane Creek Integrated Headset?

2001 Bianchi SL aluminum frame. To make compatibility matters worse, it's 1"
What I believe is a ZS-5 headset, very similar to current ZS-2.

The 1-1/8" version has been updated with a lower seal, good idea.
Not so lucky with the "obsoleted" 1" ... This issue has been covered in
R.B.T.

Has anyone improvised something to keep spray out of the lower bearing?
Any other "survival" advice?

The photos of ZS and IS headsets look identical, does anyone know
what the difference is?

I don't picture Cane Creek supporting this system in 1" too long.
I have an extra set of bearings, but long-term, if the ZS headset bites the
dust,
Is it feasible to use another headset- perhaps using spacers
to fill the cups- maybe even the bearings themselves, used as spacers.
I can imagine supergluing them in. I'm probably nuts.
Bottom line is I am sure the frame has a lot of life on it but
I wonder about the headset.

Stack height is a non-issue for me.

There are sleeves meant for mountain bikes which might help. Gatorskins
is a brand to look for.

Fair assessment.

I thought Gatorskins were a Conti Tire.
What's this sleeve thing? Send a link?

I owned one of those frames. Sold it
because I could not get the CC headset
to stop binding or loosening.

Those units are the work of the Devil.

I believe "Lizard Skins" is what's meant. They're convenient. And
inexpensive. I have used old inner tubes to the same effect (but doing
so requires removal of the fork)
