Looking at getting a bike

I'm 18 5'5'' male and weight around ~190lbs. I am looking into getting my first bike since I would like to bike around the city. I'm looking at using it for 50+ mile trips on the weekends but don't have the money for a 'road' bike so might use a basic 10mph bike to go those distances. Bike I am looking at is a Walmart bike, 700C GMC Denali Men's 26" Road Bike.

How much are those things? I saw them once while looking for a comfort bike for my 11 year old. If it were me, I would look on Craigs list for a used 50cm road bike, or a 17" frame hybrid for your height. OR if you have a Target around, they have a Schwinn hybrid for $229 that is a lot better than those Denali's.
