Our pro cycling here is also losing steam. When it closed shop sometime in the 1990s, there were efforts to revive it under the leadership of Joe Sumalde, a former champion of Tour of Luzon. Sponsors came in and the revival was going great. It was named Tour Ng Pilipinas. But unfortunately, Mr. Sumalde died. That caused another hibernation. But lately I have heard that it is again being revived although with a different name. But pro cycling, as my gut feel, is not going to gain followers like before. Sports is such varied now and even boxing is getting a stiff competition with the popularity of MMA (mixed martial arts).
