This Saturday, the Low-Key Hillclimbs are getting, well, a bit on the steep side as we tackled Bohlman and On Orbit out of Saratoga, CA. Hopefully the weather smiles on us again, despite the current forecast, and we avoid the rains, which cancel. More info:

There is NOTHING "Low-Key" about Bohlman/On Orbit. But if it's a clear day,
the views up there are spectacular! Once your eyeballs aren't bouncing
around in their sockets from your nearly-exploding heart anyway.

And yet fun to do, especially as a loop where you ride across the ridge on
the top (dirt but passable), drop down Montevino into Lexington Reservoir,
and then back up Black Mtn or Gist to Skyline. Then head down East Zayante
or Bear Creek and then back up China Grade to Highway 9 and up to Skyline,
then back down to the start.

Rain cancels, that's funny.

Or you can stay on El Sereno as long as you have energy. Up Bohlman,
across the top, down Montevina to Cherry, right on Cherry to McGill,
right on McGill back up to the top, across the top again, down the fire
road to Sheldon, up Overlook, across the open space to Glen Una, Peach
Hill/Montalvo back to Saratoga.

There are at least 4 other routes up that mountain but they get a
little dodgy in places.

What? Eyeballs bounding around in your sockets is the ESSENTIAL Low-Key :). Low-Key is
an attitude, of challenging yourself, of "competing" within your own limits and thereby
expanding those limits. It's about inclusion in a very inclusive bike racing culture.
Steep grades just assist in this: of internalizing the challenge, of making it your own.

Montevena is also a good climb! Maybe 2007.
