Magellan problems

I've got a Garmin which works fine. My mate (Pete) has a Magellan Sportrak
and it must be admitted he is more of a luddite than I am! We are planning
an attempt on the Jos Naylor Traverse, which breaks down nicely into three
distinct sections. I've drawn the routes on MM, and have named them
individually. When I try and download the routes to my Garmin there is no
problem. When downloads are made to the Magellan problems arise.
When the first route is sent, it doesn't carry the route name, just
appearing as WP01 - WP 21. When we try and download the second route this
simply overwrites the first route, and similarly if we try and download the
third route. We have tried saving each route after transfer, but to no
avail.
What are we doing wrong? The handbook gives no clues, so can anyone out
there help?

It might be a Memory Map issue rather than a Magellan issue - you might
be able to find some more info by googling / google groups for
sci.geo.satellite-nav or on the GPS info site
http://gpsinformation.net/.

To try and get round the problem can you upload the first route then
rename the route on the Magellan and then upload the next etc.
Alternatively you might be able to name the waypoints in MM so that the
automatically generated route names are different.

Hi just a quickie, I have a sportrak and use this software:
http://www.gpsu.co.uk/

Not had any probs. It is basic but flexible, there a lot of
routes/waypoints scattered around the web in a format that this software
uses and it can open memory map files apparently, never tried it though.
