On the ABC 774 Breakfast program, fill in hosts Ian Cover and Jeff Richardson inteviewed the Mayor
of Maribyrnong Janet Rice. She is trading in the mayoral car (a calais at end of lease) for a
bicycle. Bike will be set up with panniers and lights, but won't have flags front and back. Mayor
Janet Rice says it is takes 4 minutes to get the 2km to council on her bike, but sometimes 10-15
minutes in car. Maribyrnong is an inner west suburb in Melbourne, which is reasonably flat and
compact.

Excellent!

Excellent news, met Janet recently at the ABC in Southbank while doing a interview for the Commuter Race. She had just cycled in from home & we chatted, amongst other things, about those horrid headwinds along Footscray Road.

In other "Cycling Mayor" news, Cr Jackie Fristacky was elected last week Mayor of City of Yarra. Jackie is a fantastic supporter of cycling infrastructure & issues in Yarra.

Last week Jackie attended a meeting at Government House and was treated as a second-class citizen by attendants because she arrived by bike. She mentioned she will now write to the Governor to seek better facilities for cyclists at Government House.

Good things are afoot *ahem*, pedal. Oh, you know what I mean...;)))
