Melbourne Cycling Clubs - recommendation wanted

I'm based in the Bayside area of Melbourne and I would like to start road racing, probably start this summer and have no idea which club/s are good, bad or indifferent.

I haven't raced before so would be starting in the lowest grade and see how it went from there.

Any suggestions, recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard a bad thing about any of them, and they all have low grades.

Vets licenses are about half the open age license -- about $125 compared to roughly $240 -- and open age clubs offer day licenses for 20 bucks plus entry fee, which is usually 10

other clubs (not bayside) include Eastern Vets, Hawthorn, Blackburn, Footscray, Coburg and Brunswick

concur with '531's suggestions. Stkilda actually run some introductory courses for new racer's (not just for juniors)...they have a 'keen' social scene, get in touch with 'em for all the info....generally pretty good blokes (& gals)

St kilda is a member of the Northern Combine, CCCC is Eastern Combine. St K don't do a lot of racing - AFAIK they organise no road races over winter (please, correct me if I'm wrong), while CCCC organise a -lot-. Additionally, both clubs organise crits over summer, StK do Port Melb, and CCCC do Glenvale Cres (Mulgrave, just off Springvale Rd)

If hanging around at Cafe wan^H^H^Hracer is your thing, St K is your club, if racing is ... CCCC is your club. This just a cultural observation of course , depending on just how far "bayside" you are - there's also Mornington and Chelsea-Peninsula.

I'm not a member of any of those clubs, FWIW.

im am a member of blackburn but i get weekly email updates from st kilda and have raced with them in port melbourne, they seem to do alot of social occassions and organise good rides
