ok so I have taken the plunge and have the trial version of MemoryMap
and a map of Swansea and am most impressed. I would like to check that
it all works with my GPS and would like a map of my local area. Where
can I get a free one and what is the best way to download it into
MemoryMap. I suspect that there is a very steep learning curve ahead!

You can't get a free one. You have to buy it. It is called commerce.
