  1. Merianne's Blonde Brownies

    Published in: Daily Herald

    1 1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 cup brown sugar -- packed
    3large eggs
    1 tablespoons vanilla
    3 cup flour
    1 tablespoons baking powder
    3/4 teaspoons salt
3 cups : dried fruit -- coarsely chopped nuts or chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cream butter into brown sugar. Add eggs and
vanilla; beat until smooth. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together
and add to mixture. Add combination of fruit, nuts or chocolate chips.
Spray pan. Lay a sheet of aluminum foil over cookie pan with overhang.
(You will use overhang to pull brownies off the pan.) Spread brownie
batter evenly over foil. Arrange the oven rack to lowest position. Bake
45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove from oven; let cool 5 minutes then pull
aluminum foil off cookie pan and set on wire rack to allow brownies to
    continue to cool.
    Cut into 24 pieces.

Note: Merianne uses 1 cup nuts and 2 cups chocolate chips.
